Given the exposed location, it was not a surprise to find that double-fixing was required for all the roof tiles to meet the requirements of the updated British Standard BS 5534: 2014, the Code of Practice for Slating and Tiling.
The project under consideration comprised six apartments, four houses and two bungalows being built for Halton Housing Trust. Architect Frank Olchowski of Denovo Design specified the roofs in BMI Redland’s popular DuoPlain and Grovebury interlocking tiles. Having read about Innofix in the trade press, he recommended the product to Mersey Roofing whose team were instant converts.
Project: Affordable housing project
Contractor: Mersey Roofing
Architect: Denovo Design
Product: Innofix Clip, Grovebury, DuoPlain
“It’s easily the best tile fixing clip we have used. It’s self-explanatory and easy to use and, best of all, much quicker than any of the other options we’ve tried. The second fix usually consists of a nail and a clip which is fiddly and time consuming – the fantastic thing about Innofix is that it’s just one clip. We will definitely be using the Innofix Clip again.”
Jake Duff, owner of Mersey Roofing
“Quality and durability are important and BMI Redland is a tried and tested manufacturer so it has credibility with clients such as housing associations for whom maintenance is a big issue.”
‘‘We chose these two specific tiles to meet concerns from the planning department and the Innofix Clip was a definite benefit because all these buildings are timber-frame, so it’s imperative to get them weatherproof as soon as possible”.

The Innofix Clip was introduced in response to the increased requirement for fixings outlined in the recently revised British Standard. Designed to make roofers’ lives easier and strong enough for all UK exposure zones, the clip is simply clicked into place, securing the bottom of the tile to the roof batten with no need for a hammer or nails. Its main appeal is in the speed of installation – in time trials Innofix has provided a time saving of up to 40% over traditional nailed clips.
