Two outstanding century-old school roofs, using Redland Rosemary clay tiles and Redland Cambrian Slates, have won at the annual Pitched Roofing Awards

Hosted by RCI magazine, the coveted awards bring together the very best of the industry to celebrate the most exceptional suppliers, projects, and people in pitched roofing. This year, BMI is thrilled to announce that two projects featuring its high-quality Redland systems have been recognised.

NRA John Clifford School Pitched Roofing Awards

NRA Roofing won ‘Best Use of Concrete & Clay Tiles for a Commercial Project’ for their work at John Clifford School and Central Roofing received a highly commended award in the ‘Best Use of Slate for a Commercial Project’ category for Shireland Academy.

Chris Nicholls, Sales Director at BMI UK & Ireland said: “With a strong selection of projects submitted for this year’s awards, competition was tough. However, NRA Roofing and Central Roofing are hugely deserving winners, having delivered work that combines high-quality products with expert workmanship and project management.

“It is extremely rewarding for the Redland team to have been involved in these projects and I am sure that both schools will now benefit from roofs that will provide a lifetime of excellent performance. We very much look forward to working with both contractors again.”

John Clifford School

John Clifford School, Nottingham

NRA Roofing undertook this six-month project to refurbish the 125-year-old John Clifford School site with a brand new 2,300sqm roof. To carry out the re-roofing works, their team had to navigate several challenges – from delivering high standards of installation on period detailing, to safely working on a live school site. This required collaborative effort from surveyors YMD Boon and Redland, who worked together to successfully secure a Condition Improvement Fund bid and used Redland’s SpecMaster specification service. NRA Roofing used Redland Rosemary Clay Craftsman tiles in Victorian to deliver on quality and appearance. Judges described the project as being an “amazingly complex job given the size of the project.”

Shireland Collegiate Academy

Central Roofing’s project involved the re-roofing of Shireland Collegiate Academy, originally constructed in 1907. Featuring ten steeply pitched roofs, a replacement for the original natural slates needed to be found - many of which had broken, lifted or split. The authentic natural slate appearance of Cambrian Slate from Redland made it the perfect choice for preserving the look of the original building while bringing it up to modern building requirements. Alongside replacing the roof, the specialist team also restored the bell tower using traditional techniques. Through re-leading, repainting and repointing the mortar on the brickwork, the team was able to preserve this beloved feature of the building.
