House builder, James Taylor, who owns PAARL decided that he wanted to build an eco-efficient home after the ever increasing energy prices hit an all-time high. Working with architects Goater Jones LLP, together they came up with a design that would use very little energy from the grid and would be able to produce a large portion of its own energy requirements. To help enhance the energy efficiency of the property, a strong and durable roof was paramount.
The luxury three-storey house is situated on a slope facing the Surrey Downs. The interior features six bedrooms, five bathrooms and includes a home cinema. The Rosemary Clay Craftsman tile in the Albury finish – a traditional warm dark reddish clay with natural textures to create an aged heritage look – has been used both for the roof and the vertical tiling.
Speaking about the project, James Taylor said: “Having worked on countless roofs in the past, I knew that the Craftsman was the best tile for the job as they are renowned for their quality and strength. We always order extra tiles to make up for any breakages and in this case, we had loads left over because they simply didn’t break. I liked the look of them so much, I even used them on the walls as an added decorative feature.”
The handcrafted finish of the Rosemary Clay Craftsman features a variable hanging length and random textured surfaces to create a handmade weathered look while retaining all the qualities and benefits of a brand-new, machine-made tile.
With the attributes and strength of a brand new tile, and manufactured to Redland’s highest standard, you can put your trust in Craftsman to create a roof of outstanding handcrafted character that lasts. Subtle texturing to the surface and edges, random distortion of the leading edge and a hanging length that varies from tile to tile, all combine to accurately replicate the look of traditional handcrafted old clay tiles.
